It is for that reason that watch makers like to latch on to cars of legendary esteem, and pay tribute. The Austin Healey 3000 is the car to which Swiss watch maker Frederique Constant makes tribute with the new Frederique Constant Austin Healey watch. While the British sports car maker had many hit, especially here in the US (the Sprite to mention another popular model), the 3000 was one of the most beautiful. The best modern car to compare it with would be a Mazda Miata. The Austin Healey 3000 was sold through the late 60s, and offered the type of nimble handling in a great looking roadster that no American car could match. Although the 3000 did not include an enormously powerful engine, it was more a handling car, than a speed demon. Inside, drivers were acquainted with a classy interior only a European car could deliver at the time. From a wooden dash, to a thin steering wheel, it was an achievable dream car for many (give the reasonable price). It was an "everyman's" weekend car.

In addition to this, the Bell & Ross Vintage Jumping Hours line features a well inserted power reserve indicator. There are currently four watches in the line who share the same automatic mechanical movement that dispenses with such superfluous functions like the date or a seconds display. The watches are really nice in style and offer what I'd picture a successful industrialist would like to wear. The Bell & Ross Vintage line is really connected by a certain case style, and numeral font, which these watches share. Being on the higher end of the Bell & Ross line, these watches are constructed from either platinum or gold, or a mixture of the two.

It is always a pleasure to hear good news from Linde Werdelin. I recently got word of an interesting new release from the Britain based company. Watch companies are usually silent about new products until the official announcement. You talk with them regularly with no word of something new brewing, and then one day you get the news. Once in a while I'd like to see some "leaked" concept art. Well, this is a really cool new watch, which is actually part old watch. Frankly, it takes a bit of involvement in the industry to fully "get" this watch. Maybe you don't know who Svend Andersen is, or why Linde Werdelin chose to use a 1970s NOS automatic movement for a thoroughly modern timepiece. In a nutshell, it is a clever way to produce something really individual, based on unique partnerships, and a process that other companies can't easily replicate.

Just to be clear, this is a concept, so it might never reach the light of retail day. But it really should, aside from some technical hurdles that need to be crossed. Japanese Designer Hironao Tsuboi at 100% Design has imagined this minimalist LED watch, that isn't quite all that minimalist in look, merely function. The minimalist element comes in as the watch only shows the time in minutes and hours Philippe Starck style. The time telling element is neatly integrated into the dark colored metal (either PVD, gun metal, or some other steel darkening technique). That is the really cool part, but it looks as though you have merely a masculine looking bracelet on, that happens to tell the time.

My overall feeling about this particular Nautica watch is good. Styling is attractive and not "chinsy" looking. It is about as nice as one can hope for given the price, and the looks will appeal to various taste groups.

Today pocket watches, while still made in limited numbers, are mostly collectors or novelty items. Very few people actually carry pocket watches anymore. By far, most people who want to know what time it is, wear a watch. But things are changing to a degree, and I am not sure if it is for the best.

This video was done by Morgan Schmidt who is a cinematographer. His website is located at Visionsmadereal.net. This enjoyable minute and a half film represents one of the better watch movement closeup films out there. You really get a sense of the mystere involved in just how complex watch movements are, and the delicate ballet that goes underneath what appears to be basic time telling operation.  You need some good quality cameras to shoot videos like this though, as most are not capable of such extreme macro cinematography (or photography for that matter).

Ernst Benz Shows China Love With The Beijing 2008 Limited Edition Chronoscope Watch

Food and drink are included as if you cared, that isn't why you are going. I'd like a tour of the castle myself. Pre-order prices are 25 euros, and the normal price to attend is 35 euros. Not too bad for the event. Overall, it seems like a great place to be, and I wish I could be there. Only thing, I wish they might think about changing the name of the event next year. "Watch2008?" Could it get any less specific? Maybe they are just trying to be the anti- Basel World.

The trunks will be initially available for sale in limited quantities, but for the right portion of a small country's GDP you can probably have one too. If Piaget has run out due to extreme demand, I am sure you can call up Pinel and Pinel and they will make one available (but perhaps without the Piaget logo branded on there).

The poorest person with almost no technical knowledge could assort a mix of songs on a tape. It was  thus one of the cheapest and most heartfelt gifts and symbols of affection that one could give to another. That combined with the hand written notes on the tape surface make for emotionally charged, yet obsolete tokens of our past. In response to the positive feelings most of us attribute to mix tapes, Levi's has released the Mix Tape watch. The relatively inexpensive timepiece cleverly transforms the surface of a tape into a watch face. The two tape reels are turned into a date and day of the week indicator, and simple block hands are used to tell the time. I appreciate how faithfully the shape and look of a cassette tape has been recreated in the watch case. The simple metal bracelet is comfortable and 80's era stylish.

The Perfect Way To Relax With Some Watch Montage Video And Classical Music Feature Articles Here is a short entry for today, but with a good video to watch. Here is a compilation of video footage, much of it time lapse footage of watch and watch movement operation. A good deal of it is of vintage manually wound mechanical chronograph movements. I like this video for a couple of reasons. First, it makes use of well functioning watch that have had nice lifespans, is really and not computer graphics, and the choice of music represents the refinement required to make any of these watches operate.

With so many models, Nautica can't spare the time to actually name most of its watches. So today's Nautica watch is simple known as the N16529G, which actually has a few style variations. Understand that watches at this market level need to do one thing well, look like much nicer watches. If a watch looks nice enough, it will sell. Consumers at these price points aren't really concerned about the quality of the watch, the movement, and for 0-0, you aren't going to expect more than a couple of years of cosmetically perfect use out of the watches. I see them as fun watches to wear once in a while. I'm not going to impress anyone watch snob (like me) with my fancy Nautica. But then again, to many people this is big watch money. So I discuss this watch for what it is, a amalgamation of high style looks that Nautica amassed into a single watch.

SIHH 2009 Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving Navy SEALs Watch Collection

SIHH 2009 Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving Navy SEALs Watch Collection

Did that make a lot of sense to you? I'll tell you what the movement does that is supposed to be appealing. The tourbillon escapement spins on two axis points. That is merely an improvement of adding another axis, but functionally doesn't really do anything else but make it a bit more interesting to look at.  There are plenty of other more complex tourbillon movements out there. The rest of the movement? Those spokes, and support bars? Nothing. Merely for show. Cosmetic nothingness.

Marc Ecko Master Of Possibilities Watch Is Master Of Bad Taste: 12 Ways To Look Unrefined Watch Releases Before moving on to 12 rings of calamitous aesthetic, lets look at the watch itself. An almost tawdry looking quartz movement based chronograph that is barely legible underneath all the pseudo-glitz. The hands are so small, I can barely view them, and the menage of polishes and textures just really doesn't do it for me. If you say that I am making a judgment call about the design, well I am. And in my humble opinion, it is ugly.

Can you afford this timepiece wonder? Not likely. Price has not been announced yet (to my knowledge) but don't expect prices to go south of 0,000, more likely in the 0,000 - 0,000 range. Though I might be wrong, and a shiny new Sidewinder or Starcruiser could soon be had for a svelte ,000 - 0,000.

Don't blame yourself if you've never heard of Sarpaneva watches. That is ok, I didn't know of them until recently myself. Stepan Sarpaneva started Finland's first mechanical watch company in 2003, and the boutique watch maker has released an impressive array of complex and intriguing watches in just a few short years. One of the newest mechanical creations is the Korona K3 (shown in its 'Red Moon' iteration here).

Enjoying watches is typically not a solo activity. Watch lovers like myself feel the need constantly discuss or mentions watches, much to the dismay of non-watch lovers. But when you meet a fellow horological enthusiast, the conversation quickly becomes lively as shared interests intermingle. In my time I have realized that certain types of people tend to like watches more than others. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but represents six professions that tend to attract a watch loving bunch. Though it could also easily be suggested that entrance into the profession itself engenders a new appreciation that all the while lay dormant.
